Yankee Scares: Connecticut Horror
Interview with Kurt Newton

Horror Over the Handlebars Paperback and Kindle Unlimited
Reached #3 in New Horror Anthologies!

What's the most improbable but true thing about you?
I grew up spending my summers building tree houses, swinging on rope swings, and jumping bikes over homemade ramps… and I've never broken a bone or chipped a tooth!
Why did you choose to submit to Horror Over the Handlebars?
As a kid who spent pretty much every day on my bike riding around town with friends, I liked the nostalgia of the theme.
Tell us a little about your story, “The Withering” and its genesis.
"The Withering" began as a dream (or a memory, I'm not quite sure) about a woman who lived in this cool little house one could get to by walking through the woods. She had rainbow gardens and calico cats, and arrowheads lining her windowsills. That's what I remembered (or had dreamed I remembered). The rest of the story is purely fictional as to what her true nature is.
Tell us about “P.E.T.E.” in Horror Over the Handlebars and what you liked about it.
"P.E.T.E." has a nostalgic Stranger Things meets Stephen King's "The Body"-type vibe. I liked the portrayal of friendship regardless of differences.
If you could time travel, where would you go, what would you do, and why would you do that?
I would go back to the 70s and hang out, listen to the music, and write stories about what could have been.
Who would you bring back from the dead for one hour and what would you do with them?
I'd bring back my grandparents. I never knew my grandparents, the last one dying when I was two-years-old. I'd bring them back and ask them to tell me about my parents and what were they like as kids, who they wanted to be, and what made them laugh.
What's your favorite piece of art? Could be music, writing, sculpture, painting...
Jean Sibelius's Symphony #7.
What are you most proud of creating?
Blood Alchemy, an unpublished novel currently in Lycan Valley Press's publication queue. Release date TBA.
What's next on your literary horizon?
A trilogy of novels that will be an all-encompassing, interdimensional, small town, subterranean creatures, the-end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it horrorfest. You could call it my magnum opus. I hope to finish Book One this year.
Where can readers connect with you online?
I'm in the process of reviving my website. But, in the meantime, there's always Facebook (look me up, find my face, friend me), Twitter & Instagram (both @kurtdnewton), and Bluesky (@kurtnewton.bsky.social).
